How come all of a sudden my 9 month old golden retriever puppy has developed 3 or 4 dime sized black spots on her otherwise pink tongue?

if what your calling "black spots" are actually more of a purple color it could mean that they have some chow chow in them i know chows have purple on their tongue and i have heard something of an old wifes tale that a dog with a purple tongue is a very smart dog
Golden retrievers are known to have black spots. This does not mean that your dog is mixed by any means. Google black spots and goldies. you will see that there have been AKC champions that have had black spots.
