Remove the gasoline from the gasoline tank. Remove the fuel line from the gasoline tank. Remove the fuel sending unit retaining plate. Reverse the process to install the new fuel sending unit.

It could be a fuse or the fuel sending unit. On that vehicle the fuel sending unit can be accessed by removing the rear seat.

I bet this happens with less than half a tank. Your fuel sloshes back and forth and the float on the sending unit is moving and will drop this seems to be a common problem on replacement sending units.
I've just replaced a sending unit on a 94 S-10. To my knowledge, the sending unit only tells the gauge what to read so you can see it on the dashboard cluster...

Depends on how you plan on shipping it. If you are just putting it in a box and sending it no. If you are putting it in a container with dried ice, as long as that dried ice is not completely melted, then yes.
