yes

It does not flow through the insulating dielectric, it flows by charging one plate positive and the other negative. Excess charge carriers entering on one lead of the capacitor build up on one plate and electrostatically repel charge carriers from the other plate and out of the capacitor's other lead.

Why is water the enemy of insulation?

Water decreases the overall thermal performance of the insulation, also water may just short circuit around the insulation and render it useless.Water, if present on dielectric surface, due its high conductivity decreases the surface resistivity of the dielectric, thus causes high creepage current (surface current).

What is dielectric constant?

A dielectric is an insulating material that does not conduct electricity and is transparent to an electromagnetic field. Dielectric materials are used to separate conducting surfaces such as the plates inside a capacitor, wires inside transformers, electric cable conductors, and elsewhere in the electric industry where electrical separation of charged elements is necessary. The dielectric constant is a ratio of the capacitance of a capacitor in which a particular insulating material is the dielectric, to the capacitance of the capacitor in which a vacuum is the dielectric.

What Term is also called live or hot which means that a voltage is present and it can cause an electrical current?

A dielectric helps capacitors store more charge for the same amount of voltage because they are what kind of material?

What is a gamma cell?

The present invention relates to a gamma-electric cell for producing a high-output voltage from a source of radiation wherein the gamma-electric cell includes a central collector constructed of a dense metal and with the central collector encapsulated within an outer layer of dielectric material. A further conductive layer is then disposed on or within the dielectric material so as to provide for a high voltage output between the conductive layer and the central collector upon the reception of radiation by the gamma-electric cell. The invention also includes the use of a plurality of collectors radiating from the central collector throughout the dielectric material so as to increase the collection area and thereby increase the current and/or output voltage. Other aspects of the invention are directed to the method of producing a high voltage output gamma-electric cell by encapsulation techniques using a dielectric material which is castable and curable so as to provide for an intimate contact between the collectors and the dielectric material which surrounds and encapsulates the collectors. Other aspects of the method of encapsulation of the present invention include the use of specific dielectric materials and also the elimination of trapped gases within the dielectric material.

Why capacitor allows ac and not dc?

CAPACITOR BLOCKS DC SUPPLY .THERE ARE MAINLY TWO ANSWERS 1.CAPACITIVE REACTANCE Xc=1/( 2*3.1416*F*C) , HERE THE FREQUENCY OF DC SUPPLY IS ZERO .HENCE THE REACTANCE VALUE IS INFINITY .SO IT BLOCKS THE DC SUPPLY. 2.CURRENT THROUGH A CAPACITOR IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE RATE OF CHANGE OF CURRENT . BUT IN THE CASE OF DC SUPPLY, THE RATE OF CHANGE OF CURRENT IS ZERO. HENCE THE CAPACITOR CURRENT IS ALSO ZERO. H.L.kiran

What is the use of resistors in a circuit?

One use is as a current limiter. For example if a certain device (like a capacitor) is capable of being in conditions similar to a short circuit, the amount of current "drawn" by the capacitor could be damaging to it or other components. Placing a resistor in series with the capacitor means that you can select the proper resistor so that at maximum capable volt, you know the maximum current that will flow through that value resistor according to Ohms Law. Another use is to design to have a desired voltage present in certain parts of the circuit.

What is the relationship between present value factor and annuity present value factor?

Present value annuity factor calculates the current value of future cash flows. The present value factor is used to describe only the current cash flows.

Why we get triangular wave as output when we apply square wave as input?

because of charging and discharging of capacitor present in the circuit. beacause capacitor charges exponentially. akshay dabhane

What blocks current flow?

Resistors "resist" current flow. The ultimate "blocking" resistor is an open circuit, having a resistance of infinity (for all practical purposes) ohms.Capacitors also resist a change in voltage drop. For the case of a DC circuit, a capacitor, after reaching equilibrium, will present a DC resistance of infinity. For the case of the AC circuit, a capacitor will allow the AC signal to pass, while blocking any DC bias that might be present. So, resistors and, in the DC case, capacitors, block current flow.

What is the phase shift between voltage and current when an capacitance is connected to the circuit?

The amount of phase shift depends on the resistance that is also present in the system. In an ideal situation, the phase shift would be +90 degrees, but that would require a voltage source with zero resistance, conductors with zero resistance, and an ideal capacitor that exhibited only capacitance.

What is dielectric discharge test?

The Dielectric Discharge (DD), sometimes called re-absorption current, test is performed during the discharge cycle after the test. There are three components of current (charging, polarization and leakage currents) present during a standard insulation test, which make it difficult to determine the dielectric discharge. Rather than measuring the polarization current during an insulation test, the DD test looks at the de-polarization and capacitive discharge currents at the conclusion of the insulation test. The device under test (DUT) must be charged for an adequate amount of time to be stabilized therefore, the only remaining current component is leakage current. The DUT is then discharged at the completion of the insulation test and the current flow is measured during a standardized time of one minute. This current is dependent on the overall capacitance and the ending test voltage. Dielectric discharge is calculated as: Dielectric Discharge = I (after 60 seconds) / Volts x Capacitance The DD test can identify excess discharge currents that happen when a layer of multi-layer insulation is damaged or contaminated. This condition will be missed by both the spot test and the Polarization Index test. Discharge current will be higher, for a known voltage and capacitance, if an internal layer is damaged. The time constant of this individual layer will differ from the other layers, causing a higher current than for insulation that is good. Homogenous insulation will have a DD value of 0 while good multi-layer insulation could have a value as high as 2. Source: http://www.aemc.com/
