Adam and Eve would not have spoken English. The oldest English that is somewhat understandable by a person today is Middle English, which was the language used by Chaucer in the famous Canterbury Tales. This book was written over a period of time between 1380 and 1400 AD. Modern English is thought to have began in about 1550 AD.

Adam and Eve on the other hand were created 6009 years ago (4000 BC). This would mean that Adam and Eve were born aproximately 5400 years before Middle English, or 5550 years before "The Great Vowel Shift" in England which took place in 1550 AD and began Modern English.

My guess would be that they spoke Hebrew. Here is how I come to that conclusion:

We're not sure who wrote the book of Genesis. Some say it was Moses, some say it may have been Adam himself. Either way both of these men spoke Hebrew. The language that god would have given Adam would have been Hebrew, and the language that The Bible was written in originaly was Hebrew.

This may seem strange to think that characters from Christian bibles spoke Hebrew, but remember, the Torah is the first 5 books of the old testement, and in fact there was no religion of Christianity during the time of Moses and Adam, as Christianity did not begin until the time of Christ.

Here's a real mind blower for you - By my earlier logic, its possible that Adam and Eve spoke Arabic too, as they are also part of the Qur'an! By that logic, the Qur'an was told to the prophet Mohammed by Allah in the language of Arabic, and musulms probably believe that Adam and Eve spoke Arabic!

A:The Bible simply assumes they talked to each other, just as they talked to God when they saw him walking in the Garden of Eden. Because the story of Adam and Eve originated in the Hebrew culture, many assume they must have spoken in the Hebrew language, but of course Hebrew did not develop away from its Canaanite origins until around the tenth century BCE.

A:Humans most certainly could speak at least several hundred thousand years ago, long before the time attributed to Adam and Eve. Scientists can prove this by looking at their anatomy. In humans, the larynx descends down the throat in early childhood, forming a larger pharynx suitable for the complex sounds used in speech, but with the disadvantage that after infancy, humans can not drink and breathe at the same time. Early human brain structures also showed signs of advanced intelligence that allowed humans to learn and use speech. Filmakers have a lot to answer for in their depictions of cavemen.

How God spoke to Adam was as a formless voice. The manner in which God spoke was as a parent. But the parental interaction was one of a parent to a child who understands instructions, but isn't independent. God explained to Adam how he was to lead his life. For example, Adam was told that he could eat the fruit of any and all of the trees in the garden. But he wasn't to eat any of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil [Genesis 2:16-17].

There are a few paradoxes in the biblical creation accounts. In this case, Adam and Eve seem to have the use and understanding of of a common language from the very moment of their creation.

How long did Adam and Eve live before the cavemen?

A:Scientists know that humans lived in caves (cavemen) hundreds of thousands of years ago, whereas the story of Adam and Eve is only set around six thousand years ago, as can be established by adding the generations ages of the biblical characters down through the ages. We also know that the cavemen were hunter-gatherers and knew nothing of farming, but the biblical Cain and Abel are portrayed as farmers. The ancient Hebrews who first told the stories of Adam and Eve, and their sons Cain and Abel, knew nothing of hunter-gatherer societies. Strictly speaking, one may not say that the cavemen came before Adam and Eve, or vise versa, because cavemen really did exist, whereas Adam and Eve were simply characters in the biblical story. However, if a comparison is required, the cavemen lived hundreds of thousands of years earlier.

Did god create cavemen?

Whether or not God created cavemen is a matter of belief, just as it is a matter of belief to Hindus whether Brahma created cavemen. Certainly, Neanderthals existed in Europe long before the time attributed to Adam and Eve.
