As explained somewhere else the word ( Scout) is indirectly evolved from the obsolete spelling of Escoutez- to Listen ( the modern French equivalent is Ecouter, the S dropped over time- this would have been pronounced- Ess-Koot-=Ayy) which does sound vaguely like the word (Scout). The Fleur De Lis is associated with French royalty, so it would be an appropriate symbol. also it is used on some (mainly Naval) Compass indicator markers- and boxing the compass is a scoutly skill! Uncofrimed reports a variant comet- and Fleur de Lis used by the Explorer"s Club.

It is taken from the symbol used on many compasses and maps to indicate north, signifying that a scout will follow a path that is straight and true both figuratively and literally. The three points represent the three promises of the scout oath; duty to God and country, duty to others and duty to self.

The design of the diamond lily, a variant of the fleur-de-lis, as it was originally in the interfaith area of the Scout Movement in different variants in Germany and still is, comes from Christian Rietzschel and was formed in 1926 for the New German Scout Association . [2]

Later this type of lily design was conducted at the Empire Shaft German scouts and federal German scouts used, and today include still in Federation of Scouts and Guides inGerman Scouts in the Boy Scouts lynx , the Scout Association globetrotters and other small frets, mostly spin-offs are of the DPB.

The World Scouting Movement now uses a highly modified form of the original diamond lily.
