by the wind carrying dead bodies into a pit forming a valley, hints the name "death valley"
Death Valley is a block of land that has been dropped between parallel faults. It dropped so far that Death Valley is the lowest point in the United States. So, death valley was formed when it was dropped between parallel faults.
Death Valley was formed with the moving of the earth pushing up and out away from the valley over millions of years. It was not carved out by water as was the Grand Canyon but by the movement of the earth. Giant "plates" moving and pushing out.
its a desert,so a lot of people must of died there if its called death vally from the lack of water. if u dont know what lack means, it means less of something. It was named Death Valley by pioneers who struggled through there in the winter of 1849-1850. Only one member of their party died. The survivors had such a horrific time on the floor of the valley that as they left they said 'goodbye Valley of Death' or some variation - probably invoking the 23rd Psalm's "Valley of the Shadow of Death." I'm not quite sure what this question means but here are two answers. 1) Geologically Death Valley started millions of years ago when giant plates in the earth began to shift and push out and upwards. The land between the plates essentially sank as the mountains on either side were pushed up. In that way it differs from the Grand Canyon and other valleys which were carved by water. 2) How did Death Valley get its name? Well, pioneers heading west for the California gold rush in 1849 decided to take a shortcut. They headed due west from a trail in Utah and landed in what would later be called the Great Basin. Much of their trek was through Nevada's desert and eventually they found themselves in a dry, salty valley where one of their party died and others nearly did. As they left that valley someone in the party thought of their terrible time there and turned and looked back and said, "Goodbye valley of Death" or "Goodbye Death Valley." The pioneers told their tales when they arrived in civilization and a reporter got a hold of the name and it stuck. The name "Death Valley" first appeared on a map in 1861 - and it's been cursed with the name ever since!
