Both men and women wore makeup in ancient Egypt. Eye makeup called kohl (most commonly black) was used to line the eyes. It also provided protection against the sun's glare. Kohl was made from minerals ground with oils. Black kohl was made of either antimony or galena. Other colors of kohl were made from different ingredients to give it a different color. Green was made from malachite, blue from lapis lazuli, and white from lead carbonate.

they made their own makeup, they were the first to invent eyeliner called Kohl and they wore blush and eyeshadow. The makeup was very important to their culture and they respected the gods and goddess. Mostly the women wore the makeup but sometimes the men did only for special occasions like parties or for the new god or the new goddess.
