And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

The Bible does not say exactly why. Some believe it may be because Enoch and Elijah will be the two prophetic witnesses of Revelation 11.

Answer:

The Bible doesn't say that God "took Enoch to heaven." It just says:

"...for God took him." (Gen.5:24)

Or, "...because God took him away." (NIV)

The word for "took" is "laqach" (law-kakh'), meaning: "to take (in the widest variety of applications)..." [emphasis, mine] (Strong's Definitions).

The KJV translates this word "laqach" elsewhere throughout the Old Testament as: "accept, bring, buy, carry away, drawn, fetch, get, infold, mingle, place, receive(ing), reserve, seize, send for, take (away, -ing, up), use, win."

But nowhere does the Bible say "where" God "carried away" Enoch.

The only thing we DO know from the Bible on the Word of Jesus Christ, is that... wherever it may have been that God took Enoch... it WASN'T heaven.

"NO ONE HAS EVER GONE INTO HEAVEN except the One who came from heaven -- the Son of Man." (John 3:13 NIV)

We also know from Hebrews 11, that "Enoch died." He is listed with others of Old Testament "faith" that concludes with:

"All these people were still living by Faith WHEN THEY DIED..." (Heb.11:13 NIV)

Or, as the KJV says it: "THESE ALL DIED IN FAITH...".

The idea that God took Enoch to heaven is an assumption on the part of men, because the Bible says no such thing.

Plus... on the same Word of Jesus Christ [quoted above]... we also know that Elijah wasn't taken to the "third heaven" [II Cor.12:2], either; from whence Jesus, Himself, came -- but into the "first heaven" where birds fly [within the breatheable atmosphere of the earth] and set back down somewhere else on the earth, as people commonly do in modern aircraft every day in the world, today.

The probability is that God "took Enoch away" to "bury him" [since he was dead]... as He did Moses [Deut.34:6].

Additional Comments:

Much of the confusion or assumptions that someone goes to Heaven - 3rd heaven or Throne of God and the spirit world - is the fact that the Bible speaks of 3 heavens as noted above. But concerning Elijah, consider that the story of his being taken into heaven is in 2 Kings 2:11. Now about 7 years later, in 2 Chronicles 21:12, we have Elijah sending a letter to the then King (time is counted by the Kings - Ahaziah's death and Jehoram). This proves that Elijah was taken 'away' in the 1st heaven or sky to another place of safety like Enoch.

----------

Looking at another verse in Hebrews 11 (Heb 11:5)

"By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. "

... Which rather suggests that he did NOT die but rather was taken up to some holding area or something like Elijah... Which makes you wonder if something similar happened with Moses (that he was taken up rather than died) to keep him available to appear on the Mount of Transfiguration (Math 17:3 "And, behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with him.") Have fun pondering that.

Walking with God is an expression that means "obeying His Commandments."

It means living your life in accordance with His Word.

It means to be in agreement with what He says and reflect it in faith through your conduct and works.

"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3)

The Bible says: "...Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: and Enoch walked with God AFTER he begat Methuselah three hundred years..." (Gen.5:21-22).

Evidently... Enoch didn't "repent" of his carnal nature, turn to God, and begin walking after God's Commandments until his first child was born at the age of 65.

Enoch did go straight to heaven. Look in Genesis 5:18-24

Another Answer:

NO. The Scripture says only Jesus is qualified to go to Heaven:

John 3:13

New International Version (NIV)

13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven-the Son of Man.

The Scripture speaks of 3 heavens: the sky where birds fly; the darkness of space where planets, moons, etc are; and the Highest Heaven - the Throne of God.

Unfortunately, whenever the term heaven is used, most assume it is the 3rd heaven when it usually is the 1st heaven. Both Enoch and Elijah were transported away from the place they were to another place on Earth.

The Apostle Peter was inspired to tell us about King David, a most beloved of God who will be raised in the Millennial Rule to be King over all Israel again:

Acts 13:36New International Version (NIV)

36 "Now when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.

Like all humans, David died (sleep) and is awaiting his resurrection.

Many have puzzled over why the Lord chose Enoch to be taken into His presence rather than having to die first. According to Genesis 5 (v. 24) Enoch "walked with God."

The term walking with God here refers to a spiritual walking rather than a physical walk. This means that Enoch did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. According to Hebrews 11 (v. 5-6) Enoch was, "...commended as one who pleased God." So we don't know for sure what Enoch did, only that it pleased God enough to spare him from death.

This can be found in Genesis 5. Enoch was a faithful servant to God, so faithful that God decided that he was too good for death. At 365 years old God brought Enoch to heaven without Enoch dying. "Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." (Genesis 5:23-24)

He was taken into heaven.

Biblical answer:

Enoch died.

In Hebrews' "faith chapter" eleven, the earliest of God's faithful are listed... among whom is 'Enoch' [Heb.11:5].

Of these faithful, verse 13 clearly says: "THESE ALL DIED IN FAITH...".

Verse 5 mentions that Enoch "...was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him...".

It does NOT say that Enoch was taken to heaven.

In fact... centuries later... Jesus assures us: "...NO MAN HATH ASCENDED UP TO HEAVEN..." (John 3:13) -- except for Himself, who came from heaven, as a man, and went back there.

Either Jesus Christ, who came from heaven, knows who's in heaven and who isn't... or He made a mistake and Enoch and Elijah are really up in heaven [as some men teach in spite of Jesus' Words]... or Jesus is simply a liar; and Enoch, Elijah, and millions of other people are all up in heaven as many religions in the world teach.

The "death" that Enoch "should not see" [future tense] is the "SECOND DEATH" that Jesus promises that His servants will "not be hurt by."

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the SECOND DEATH." (Rev.2:11)

"Blessed and Holy is he that hath part in the First Resurrection [at the time of Jesus' return to earth]: on such the SECOND DEATH hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Rev.20:6)

The first who are gathered by the angels at Jesus' return are the "dead in Christ"... before those saints still living on the earth are gathered together into the clouds with them.

"...the DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air... Wherefore comfort one another with these Words." (I Thess.4:16-18)

Among these "dead in Christ" shall be Enoch [as well as Paul, who when he wrote to the Thessalonians, thought Jesus would return during his lifetime, and that he would be one of those who would be 'alive and remain'].

And Enoch, Paul, Peter and all the other "dead in Christ" shall experience the First Resurrection... be raised from the dead IMMORTAL... and be incapable of dying again, forever more -- or "not be subject to the SECOND DEATH" -- that those who experience the "Second Resurrection" at the end of Christ's thousand year rule will be.

"...This is the SECOND DEATH. And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire." (Rev.20:14-15)

"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My Son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers... shall have their part in the Lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the SECOND DEATH." (Rev.21:7-8)

THIS is the "death that Enoch should not see" -- the Second Death. Not the "first one," that's appointed to us:

"...it is appointed unto men ONCE TO DIE, but after this the Judgment..." (Heb.9:27)

Enoch died his first, "appointed death." But God determined that he "should not see" the SECOND one.

Enoch is dead... and like all the rest of the "dead in Christ"... he's "asleep in Christ" [I Cor.15:18] and awaiting the return of the Lord from heaven, where He now is.

That's what the Bible says about Enoch. Nowhere does it say that God took him to heaven. That has always been a false assumption on the part of men.

Jesus says that Enoch is DEAD... and that no MAN, other than Himself... who came from there... is in heaven.

It's really a no-brainer. We either believe what Jesus says -- or we don't.
