They also contributed two important concepts in architecture. One was anthropomorphism, which is the idea that architecture should be properly porportioned to people (aside from monumental or religious architecture). A second important concept was the idea of perspective. In large temples, for example, such as the Parthenon, the Greeks recognized that if the columns were perfectly cylindrical, it would cause the columns across the front to appear as though they pointed inward toward the top. To counteract this visual effect, columns were built so that the tops are slightly smaller than the bases, making them appear vertical to an outside observer.

After copying styles from principally Egypt they developed within a century from wood to stone. They worked out how to establish stable foundations,and learnt such things as sloping the outside columns slightly inwars so that they looked vertical, used lead around the iron pins to stop rusting iron expanding and splitting the cross beams, established stable roofs, and introduced facades which enhanced the structures.

And they painted them in brilliant colours, which we seem to have forgotten in our replicas of today.
