He is an epic hero because he is brave when he faces himself to Archilles when the guards could of benn easily killed by the guards. Another trait would be is strongness and his braveness. And to sacrifice himself.

- In Book 6, on one hand, he cares for his family, but his life as a warrior overrules that and he goes to fight, which is seen as very praiseworthy.
- In Book 22, he is tricked by Athena, yet knows he cannot retreat inside the walls of Troy for fear of being called a coward by his brother, Deiphobos. Thus he decides to fight with all of his strength against Achilles. He dies fighting, which is one of the most respected things to do as a hero. It shows arisiteia.(A moment of great triumph in battle, it is usually the moment just before death when a warrior is most like a god).
