Since the very beginning of the Order, the Society of Jesus has always been famous for its education. The Jesuit priests spent a minimum of nine years in formation, plus additional education. The Jesuits have been famous in teaching since the very early days of the Order and they have founded numerous schools and universities which are still extant today, even if they have lost much of their original religious fervour.
