∙ 12y agoAccording to an early Arthurian legend, Arthur proved that he was the rightful heir to Uther Pendragon by pulling the Sword from the Stone. This is often identified with the sword Excalibur (or Caledfwlch). In another version, it is Arthur, not Uther, who is given the magical sword by the Lady of the Lake.
The modern (Disney) version is based on the 1938 story by T.H. White, and has the boy Wart, actually Arthur, being tutored by the wizard Merlyn.
