The three main reasons given for the Crusades were:
In reality the majority crusaders went because they were told to go. Many of those in charge saw an opportunity to increase trade (become rich) by invading the Near East. The average crusader was not into the "big picture" or even where they were going. Some did not know if they should pack a lunch for the adventure or if they could come home for meals.
The Bible was written before the Crusades, and so it cannot 'justify' them.
What "justifies" the Crusades is people who wished to find a justification for their actions.
The Muslims did not have to justify the crusades, and it would not have made sense for them to do so. The crusades were wars against the Muslim people.
Some effects of the Crusades were: an increased presence of Christians in the Levant during the Middle Ages. a polarization of the East and West based on religious differences the increased role and prestige of the popes and the Catholic Church in secular affairs an increase in the power of the royal houses of Europe a stronger collective cultural identity in Europe an increase in xenophobia and intolerance between Christians and Muslims, and between Christians and Jews, heretics and pagans an increase in international trade and the exchange of ideas and technology the use of a religious historical precedent to justify colonialism, warfare and terrorism
- Muslims conquering Mecca. - Crussades by Christians to make war against the muslims (killing muslims and jews) - Muslims fighting back at Crussading Christians
