Oliver Cromwell's war crimes in Ireland, along with the confiscation of Irish Catholic lands, which were redistributed to British Protestants, created a conflict which lasted throughout modern times. Catholics were oppressed by the English Protestant members. He allowed a large amount of religious diversity, and was the first to exercise the principle of accountability of leaders to the people.

this is part of an essay i wrote about this:You can't imagine what life without a monarchy is like here in England. With Oliver Cromwell making us all live as puritans there are a lot of changes that have taken place in England. He has closed down all the inns and theatres and banned sports all it seems we're allowed to do is read The Bible and go to services in church. He believes that the only way to get to heaven is by working hard and if you have any fun at all it is incredibly frowned upon. Eating and drinking has completely changed, nobody is allowed to exaggerate on food or drink and if you're found drunk you're in serious trouble! Whilst eating all families have to be in complete silence and the children should be seen and never heard and at the table they have stand and not make a sound. When Cromwell wasn't ruling we would have feast days and eat excessive amount of food were as now we have fast days once a month were you don't eat all day! On Sundays women who are found doing unnecessary work or even going for a walk (unless to church) can be put in the stocks!he also banned Easter, let the Jews back into the country and let Christians pray privately. Life here is incredibly boring under the rules of Cromwell and the puritans.

Oliver even banned Christmas! He wants it to return to a religious celebration where people think about the birth of jesus rather than eat and drink too much as it is not allowed. Soldiers are ordered to come marching round the city and take any food being prepared for a Christmas celebration. The smell of goose being cooked can bring big trouble. Holy and any other form of decoration is completely banned and will be taken down if seen by the soldiers. He has also banned watching bear baiting, cock fighting, and other events like them, dancing, makeup, going to the theatres and working on a Sundays.
