In addition to the obvious change of ruler, his reign also saw a programme of building and fortification, changes to the english language, a shift in the upper levels of society and the church, and adoption of some aspects of continental church reform.

he came to stay ,so he made friends by hiring the welch (who had a grudge against the English) to labor in and around his castles. he built keeps to guard against the locals that he knew were plotting a resistance. he developed a complex tax law like the 1040 so he could seize the land of suspected disloyal landlords. he sent for friends in Normandy to take positions of authority in England & Scotland. there are many good library books about it.

He was the first Norman King of England and became king in 1066 at The Battle of Hastings. He conquered England and it's ruler, Harold (who got shot in the eye). He became king by conquering England. They called him the first English king although he came from France.
