The limited arable land in river valleys separated by mountains ensured that separate city-states were developed. When burgeoning populations outstripped the productive capacity of the soil, the city-states shipped their surplus populations off to other coastal sites around the Mediterranean and Black Seas to seize land and establish new city-states, resulting in over 2,000 city states.
Athens, situated in harsh mountains, led to the development of the city-state mode of government. Due to the relative isolation, each city state was self governing for the most part. Athens was the birthplace for democracy.
It caused the cities to become city-states and independent of one another. The mountainous terrain of Greece caused overland travel and trade to be very costly, making the Greeks turn to the sea instead.
Since Greece had a good bit of land it helped them because they had more people than most cities.

it made them happy
they all died.... all of them.... :(
the Spartans did nothave enough land and the Athens had beautiful things and the Spartans got jealous.
A vast and Varied land and rivers
Sparta was more isolated than Athens was. Sparta was located on a plain between the mountains and the sea in the part of Greece, which is the Peloponnesus (look it up). Spartans were usually suspicious of outsiders and their ideas. Geography had affected development in Sparta by making Spartans grow what they needed or would often take what they needed from their neighbors. Spartans valued strength and simplicity while Athens had boasted about their art and culture.
Geography of the Northeast affected its economic development since an increase in rainfall and sea level rise can lead to more damaging floods.
i dont now :P
as the rich land turned into desert people had to move away.
Geography can affect national development in a variety of ways. For example, many countries in Africa for example, are hindered in their development because their geographical location renders them landlocked and thus unable to trade with anyone except their immediate neighbors.
They all went to circle k to get polar pops. lol :)
They had limited land to support a burgeoning population, so they turned to trade.
