With the onset of the Industrial Revolution a vast migration took place. Millions moved from rural settings and settled in urbanized large cities. There were more jobs available at better pay, both which looked very tempting to small town cititizens. When they arrived they found higher prices, overcrowding and crime.

The Industrial Revolution was also the begining of the end for the horse as both transportation and a power source for man. The assembly line of Henry Ford's automobile factory spilled over into other companies making consumer goods cheaper and more accessable for the common man.

With the patent on Thomas Edison's lightbulb, the dark was illuminated not with candles but with electricity. Alexander Graham Bell's telephone made communication possible around the world almost instantanously. It was a time when hard work and a little luck could make a person a millionaire. Carnigie, Rockafeller and Astor became very rich during this time of American history.
