During the Pax Romana, travel was possible, and missionaries (who spread Christianity to non-believers) felt comfortable and safe when using the roads, and could spread their message without fear of attack. There were open routes throughout the Empire, and people were more interested in learning the teachings of Christ during a time of peace than they would be during a war or famine- it was big news. Pretty much everyone spoke the same language at the time, as well, so the missionaries could preach easily to the people.

After the Pax Romana, Christianity was the official state religion. Wherever the Romans dominated, they established Christianity.

The Pax Romana did not really help to promote the spread of Christianity. By the end of this period Christianity was still a small religion in the Roman Empire. The Pax Romana (Roman peace) was a period of relative political stability within the Roman Empire. This did not affect the spread of Christianity, which occurred irrespectively of whether there was political stability or not. In fact, Christianity continued to spread during the successive period of great instability of the invasions of the Roman Empire, military anarchy and infighting of the Crisis of the Third Century.

Emperor Augustus restored (or established) stability in the Roman territories, effectively changing the rather unstable Roman Republic into the more stable Roman Empire (although it was still called a republic). He ruled from 27 BC to 14 AD, which puts his reign during the time Jesus was born.

Augustus also set the borders of the Empire, and these stayed almost unchanged for about a hundred years. Apart from disputes about the succession that happened after the death of Nero in AD 68, the last of ruler from Augustus' family, and was settled with the rise of Vespasian in AD 69, the Roman world was in peace for the first century.

This peace created conditions which facilitated the initial spread of Christianity throughout the Roman world.
