Stalingrad was the furthest East & South the Germans got towards the Caucasus oil fields, & their defeat marks the turning point in the war against Russia. The German attacks on both Moscow & Leningrad were unsuccessful and the Soviet counter attack from Stalingrad begins the march toward their arrival in Berlin in 1945.
