Most see him only as the man who defeated Napoleon. His service to the UK as a General Officer and Field Marshall covers 60 battles. His life as the Prime Minister, MP, House of Lords and Commander in Chief of the British Army was equally as impressive.

Several factors are involved in Napoleon's loss to Wellington. Delayed communication and no system in which he could be sure instructions had been received led to Ney's failed capture of Quatre-Bras. He made a poor choice in leaders who showed little initiative and failed to use their situations to the best advantage. Bad weather forced a delay due to muddy conditions and equipment malfunctioned due to the moisture. Ultimately, Napoleon was far too arrogant and underestimated his adversaries. .
