The structure of French society was one of the reasons for the French Revolution. The people in the lower classes were tired of the impositions being made by the upper class, and they were tired of being treated as lower than dirt. If the classes had been more equal at the time, a revolution may not have happened. The people in the lower class were unhappy with the way they were being treated and the way the upper classes were representing them.

France's social structure before the French Revolution, or the Old Regime, consisted of the First, Second, and Third Estates. The First Estate was made up of the Clergy. The Second Estate was made up of the Nobility. The Third Estate was made up of peasants and the bourgeoisie.

The French revolution caused the French people to no longer be ruled by kings supplied by hereditary processes. This was a good thing, because under hereditary rule, the French had mostly had awful rulers who did things for France and for themselves, not for the people of France.

The French revolution brought an end to the Bourbon monarchy and the entire aristocratic system, which was replaced by the rule of the Emperor Napoleon. The immediate consequence was that France became involved in a lot more fighting, as a result of the Napoleonic Wars. However, eventually France did evolve into the democracy which it is today. This might not have happened without the French Revolution.
