The feelings of the American people had a wide range of feelings when the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. They felt: rage, anger, sadness, shock, surprise, confusion, thrill at Japanese being killed, hopeful for the wars end, fear, and grief.

∙ 14y agoMostly, it was met with hope that this would end the war. It must be remembered that we had fought a very bloody war with Japan for nearly four years and the end of it was not in sight. It was projected that there would be over one million casualties on the American side alone in an invasion of mainland Japan. Although it is not a popular thought now, dropping the atomic bombs on Japan save countless lives on both sides.

∙ 12y agoThe Japanese may have felt any emotions, however in my opinion, I think most of the Japanese felt devastated.
It is incredible that someone should be capable of asking such a question and not be able to answer it.
Many did not feel anything for obvious reasons. Those that knew of it and held power were devastated and knew immediately that defeat was at hand.
