How did the Mary panel hill get its name?
It was the name of a maid who worked at Ledston Hall as the story goes. Something happened to the children and she was blamed for it and branded a witch. I'm not sure exactly but I think that's roughly it. She was burned on the hill and it has been named after her.
I don't think it was particularly used for execusions, but one lady who worked as a maid near there got blamed for something that happened to the children she worked around. They branded her as a witch and burned her on that hill. Like I said, I don't know if it was used for execusions all the time, but Mary Panel certainly was executed for supposedly being a witch.
