The Revelation of the book Quran Started around the year 610 CE at Ghaar-e-Hira (The mount Cave of Hiraa) when Muhammad (peace be upon him) was praying to GOD, God's Angel Gabriel took the message of God to Muhammad and told him to read, Muhammad replied that he didn't know how to read so he squeezed him in his arms and ask him again to read. it happens like this for three times, than the first word that was reveled in quran was "Iqra" means "Read" .

In 622 CE, prophet Muhammad left Mecca with his followers (due to sufferings in Mecca and being subject to assassination plot) to a city in the north named Yathrib (later Medina), where another Muslim community had begun to grow. The date of this emigration, year 622 CE, is marked beginning year for the Muslim lunar calendar called "Hijra Calendar".

Revelation of Quran to Mohamed continued until his death in year 632 CE.

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), recorded all his revelations from God, and this came up to be the Qu'ran. These were the messages of God, and have not been altered in all the centuries it has been here, 1430 in the Muslim calander to be exact.

The original language was Arabic, and any copy you will find around the world will be exactly the same, and are used by all sects of Islam.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), administered the writings of the quran.

From the Quran we learn that the Prophet was illiterate before entering prophethood. Thereby the first revelation and traditional believe that the Angel Gabriel urged the Phophet to read. The miracle to the people at the time, to show devine inspiration, would be that the Prophet was illiterate before but could later read and know details of other scriptures.

There is some words or letters in the quran that, according to Muslim teachings of today, no human knows their meaning. Like Alim Lam Meem, Qaf, noon, etc. If no-one knew the meaning of these letters or words, how did they know that it must be a single letter, instead of the equivalent sounding word !? The Prophet must've administered the writings of the Quran with knowledge of knowing how to read and write. It gives a lot of comfort to know that the Prophet himself administered the writings of the quran.

After the Phophet's death, the pieces of the quran was brought together. The order we have today thou is another issue.

One can't really say that all the quran's is exactly the same copy, and corresponds to the original. I don't know of anyone that put it to the test. I know that the original doesn't exist anymore, and that there is sects out there that differ sharply. Verify your book, if you find discrepencies, then the books has been tampered with.
Gabriel continued to send revelations to Muhammad. Then the revelations became the Qur'an.

The Holy Quran was written to create permanently copy of Allah's (God's) final message to Mankind after this there would be no more messages from Allah (God). Due the sheer importance of this message, when ever a part of it was revealed to Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peach be Upon Him) through the Angel Gabriel it was immediately written by almost every time by at least 3 people to create a hard copy in the presence of Holy Prophet (Peace be Upon Him). It was also immediately memorized by those people. Thus eliminating the chances of it being corrupted by anything and ensuring that what originally was revealed by Angel Gabriel is what exactly is in Quran word for word.

Okay just adding to the person above and to help guide the Muslims. Plus to get them closer to Allah swt.
So it can help guide the Muslims and it answers most/all their questions. It's also like asking you why was The Bible written.

  • The Quran (alternate spellings: Quraan, Qura'n, Kuran, Koran, Kura'n) is the holy book of Islam. The Quran was revealed to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from God by the angel Gabriel about 600 years after Jesus' birth. The revelation started by 610 AD and continued until 632 AD, the year of prophet Muhammad's death.
  • One of the primary objectives of revelation in the Quran is to call people to worship one and only one God, without father, son, spirit, or duplicate of any kind. Also the Quran reveals that some of the previous revelations from God, including some texts of the Torah, the Psalms and the Gospels, have been changed and falsified over time, necessitating the need for a final revelation.
  • The preaching sections of the Quran remind people about the coming of the Day of Judgment and then urges that this Day should be taken into consideration during one's lifetime. You are urged to be grateful to your God by doing good works. Good works are characterized by being socially relevant, that is, of benefit to society. The preaching considers a central theme that people should be conscious of God during this life and follow the direction of the way of God. The way of God is not defined by dogma but is indicated operationally in two ways. The first pertains to carrying out actions characterized only by being beneficial to the welfare of humanity (society). The second involves the means of gaining faith in God through observing His creation.
  • The Qur'an stresses that all previous messengers and prophets of God are fully human and not divine.
  • The Qur'an also contains teaching related to previous prophets. This teaching involves reminding Jews and Christians of some aspects of their Scriptures and traditions, and their basic deviations from God's original revelations. Among the more important teachings are ones dealing with the divinity of Jesus and the concept of Judaic exclusiveness. The Qur'an invites Jews and Christians to hear and accept the new message.
  • Included in the Qur'an are statements and principles that establish the position of mankind on earth, and that provide guidance and freedom of choice. As a consequence of granting freedom of choice to mankind, religious diversity is taken for granted, so the Quran contains the principles regulating the dynamic coexistence among the various communities, faiths, and cultures.
  • The Quran also deals with rituals such as praying, fasting, food restrictions, and pilgrimage.
  • The Quran deals also with some aspects of social regulations like inheritance, punishment, marriage and divorce, and so on.
  • The Quran also laid down the principles of human rights, women's rights, equality of all people regardless of gender, belief, race, or culture.
  • One of the proofs that the holy book Quran was not written by humans or extracted from other books and that the Quran was a revelation from God to Prophet Mohamed is that the Quran includes many scientific statements that were only later proved by science. These statements are considered to be scientific miracles of the Quran; they were revealed by God 14 centuries ago and were validated in modern times. In this regard some words are quoted below by Dr. Maurice Bucaille (an eminent medical scientist and a member of the French Academy of Medicine). He is the author of the book entitled "The Bible, The Quran and Science."

"Science and Islam's close relationship with it played a tremendous role in strengthening my faith and that of scientists throughout history - even today! This is a fascinating section - do take time to explore it!"

It was also immediately memorized by those people. Thus eliminating the chances of it being corrupted by anything and ensuring that what originally was revealed by Angel Gabriel is what exactly is in Quran word for word. In addition, Quran revelation continued over 22 year (started in year 610 AD through year 632 AD when prophet Muhammad (PBUH) died) that allowed many Muslims to memorize it by heart and reciting it in their prayers 5 times a day. Moreover, Quran texts were revised once every year by prophet Muhammad and the angel Gabriel and revised twice on the year of prophet death. All these facts confirm Quran authenticity and that it is the only holy book that reflects real God words with its original revelation language.

Muslims believe that Allah had long before preserved and created the Qur'an in the form of a tablet in the heavens.

When the time of the Quran's descent came, it was sent down, in parts, via many sources (Jibraeel, dreams, ringing of a bell) to Muhammad. These revelations were memorized by the companions of Muhammad and written down whatever they could find; the bones of camels, palm leaves, and so on.

It was after his death though, that the Qur'an was compiled into a book, as per the order of Abu Bakr.

Orthodox Sunni Islam and Orthodox Shiite Islam argue that the Qur'an is co-eternal with God and remained exclusively in heaven until it was revealed to Muhammad, who recited it for the people of Arabia. Mu'tazilite Islam (a now-extinct sect of Islam) argued that the Qur'an was a created entity that was revealed to Muhammad as God was creating it.
