To ask what the the Roman Empire had on civilization is not the correct question. Roman civilization lasted far before the empire. Roman civilization on the other hand, has many impacts on life today. Many brides and roads in Europe. the Middle East, and Africa were built during Roman times. the Romans uses arches and invented concrete. it was the Romans who crucified Jesus, creating the most influential religion in the world. Since no country today uses a true democracy, the Romans started what is considered to be the best form of government. military organization that is still used today was invented by the Romans. The Romans kept greek literature and logic alive, which still is taught in schools around the world.

The previous answer is very agreeable, but..... 1) The roads, bridges, arches, and concrete are technological and in themselves should be viewed as such. It was Roman organization which brought them together to create the largest and most populous empire the world had yet seen, and the civilization which would survive it. 2) Pontious Pilate had already been reprimanded twice by the the Emperor Tiberius for going too tough on the Jews, and he did everything within his legal power to spare Jesus from cruxifiction. Pilate's washing of his hands was a symbolism that he had done all that he could practically do, which translates as a failure of the Roman legal system (our system) and has since resulted in many miscarriages of justices (Sacco & Vanzetti in the 1920's, et al). To declare Christianity as the world's most influential religion is entirely subjective, as there are four other religions to vie for this title. (3 It is true that Roman representative government is the best today, but only because technology has not progressed to self-govern large numbers of people, as with the Athenian democracy in which each vote counted equally. 4) The Roman military structure is in ample evidence today, but it was not entirely invented by the Romans. Most importanty, the Roman generals and officers were drawn from the patricians (ruling class) while the NCOs and enlisted were drawn from the plebians (working class). Only rarely did a plebian make the advance to patrician, as in society today. The Greeks were more equal-opportunity. 5) Yes, the Romans kept Greek culture alive, but they were imitators more than inheritors, as were the Germanic barbarians who replaced the Roman Empire. After the conquest of Corinth in 146 BC it became fashionable for Romans to emulate Greek culture, just as it later became fashionable for a Germanic invader to embrace all things Roman. As said by a more literate man than myself, "Captive Greece took Rome captive."

One thing that was inherited from the Romans is government. Although our government functions much differently, it is based in Roman democracy in that it gives power to the citizens.

Another influence that Romans have had on our society is architectural. The majority of government buildings and banks are symmetrical, have columns and tend to be white. All of these things are prominent features of famous Roman buildings.

The Romans influenced today's society with their technologies such as roads, the wheel, aqueducts, coliseums, architecture and much more. They also had a code of laws for all the people of the empire. This law allowed all roman citizens to have the right to be judged according to the law and the poor were able to be liberated of their condition. This law protected people from war, bandits, and pirates. It created Pax Romana. Although this law was not for everyone; non Romans, women, and slaves were not known as roman citizens. To this day, in Canada, some of its laws are established based on this roman code.

What relationship did the pharisees have with the Romans?

The principal Jewish sects at the start of the first century CE were the Sadducees and the Pharisees. While the Saddducees resisted foreign influence and sought to protect the influence of the wealthy in Jewish society, the Pharisees were much more amenable to foreign influences. While not exactly allied to the Romans, the Pharisees were more willing to coexist with the Roman administrators than were their fellow Jews.
