Well the US can be blamed as a major influence in causing the civil war in Cambodia so why not ask how they destroyed peace in cambodia instead.

The Cambodian Civil War (1970-1975) was between the Khmer Rouge, a Communist party led by Pol Pot, and the anti-Communist Government led by Lon Nol. It was a very violent civil war but eventually, the Khmer Rouge took power and all enemies of Pol Pot were immediately executed. Initially, the people of Cambodia were overjoyed that the fighting was over and thought the communists would bring peace. But within days, Pol Pot ordered the roundup of all intellectuals and Khmers living in the cities and sent them to forced labor camps. For the next four years from 1975-1979, the Cambodian Genocide would take place and two million innocent Khmers would be murdered.

The assumption that the nation was "at peace" prior to the civil war presumes the absence of combat. Such was not the case. If you recall the Mexican war had preceded the civil war by just a relatively few years, and roughly 40 odd years prior to that, the nation ( such as it was) fought the War of 1812.

The US Civil War is considered one of the Worst! Other terrible Civil Wars were the English Civil War and the Spanish Civil War. Probably the worst Civil Wars were those in Cambodia, Rwanda, and Vietnam. The Vietnam War is often not considered with other civil wars because of the extensive involvement of outside parties. The Vietnam War consumed about 5 million dead, more than half of them being civilians. The Cambodian Civil War and the aftermath of Cambodian Genocide saw the deaths of about 2.6 million people, around 20% of the entire population. The Rwanda Civil War took about 800,000 lives, and also represented about 20% of the entire population. By comparison, the US Civil War took about 600,000 lives from a population of about 31 million, or about 2%. That is very, very bad, but in many ways it does not compare with the horrors of the others listed here.

Augustus brought peace by winning the civil war against Antony. Without an opponent, there was peace. He also more or less stabilized the borders and concerned himself mainly with internal unrest, rather than going for deliberate expansion by conquest.
