The United States started to expand by gaining control of the Ohio River Valley. This was accomplished by taking control of the Valley from Britain. Once the United States got the valley, they had it verified by the Treaty of Paris.

like it got all its terirtory-stold it from the Amer-indians, or "bought" it from someone else who stold it from the Amer-indians. Today, those things are called "theft," and "receiving stolen property."

Settlers primarily came down the Ohio River. From SW Pennsylvania, men rode by horseback across the PA State line into Ohio or rode to the Ohio River and took a flatboat. Families went by wagon but there were no roads in Ohio yet.
