The Black Death affected towns and villages by killing off most of the inhabitants, in some cases, all of them. The survivors actually became better off afterward, as they could simply move into (larger) abandoned houses and farms, and take over the material goods that they would not have had access to any other way so the poor that survived became very rich with a big house and lts of land to grow food on. :D
The Black Death reached Ireland in 1348. It hit villages and towns much harder than the rural countryside. Since the English in Ireland were nearly all living in the villages and towns, the Black Death hit them much harder than the native Irish. The result of this was a shift away from English language and culture and toward Irish. It was at this time that the English withdrew to the area that was within the Pale.
