Two brother who were Byzantine Christian missionaries went to Bulgaria and developed an alphabet for the Slavonic languages (Cyrillic) so that the Slavic peoples could read The Bible. This is the Cyrillic alphabeth, which was named after Cyril, one of two brothers. Other missionaries spread Christianity further in Slavic lands: in the Balkan peninsula and Ukraine. Vladimir the Great, the Grand Prince of Kiev, married the sister of the Byzantine emperor (Anna Porphyrogenita) and converted to Orthodox Christianity, the form of Christianity of the Byzantine Empire. This then led to the conversion of the whole of Russia to Orthodox Christianity

Byzantine empire is a term which historians use to indicate the eastern part of the Roman Empire after the fall of the western part of the Roman Empire . Christianity had already spread through the eastern part of the Roman Empire before the Byzantine period.

The Byzantine Empire did not really exist. This is a term which has been coined by historians to indicate the eastern part of the Roman Empire after the fall of the western part of this empire. The people in question did not even know this term and called their empire Roman Empire. Christianity had already spread around the eastern part of the Roman Empire before the fall of the western part. This was the part of the empire where Christianity first spread because it was closer to Judea (which was part of the empire), which is where Christianity started,
