Civilians had to provide for the war effort, so they made money from that. Unfortunately for the South that was confederate money that wasn't worth anything after the war. Many small villages and towns sent off all of their men, even the teens and oldsters, so they only had women to do the work and run things. This was years before Rosie the riveter, so many things just didn't get done. Women weren't allowed to vote, so they really weren't going to be behind a plow doing the planting either. Modern day people get the Hollywood version thanks to Gone with the Wind and other fictional accounts, but that picture was far from accurate. In the North, things weren't much better. Factories had to shut down due to lack of staff. West Point was turning out substandard graduates, some who could barely read, just to help the war effort. Everyone in the nation was fearful that America was going to soon become a ruins that would be swept up by a strong foreign nation like Britain or France. I have to do more research into how the CW affected Northern women, but the original answer to this was "I don't knowq". Thanks, retard. I bet you leave the lids loose on salt shakers, too don't you?
They Did The Same Things For Both Sides They Helped Out With The Clothing And Injuries Of The Soldiers/Medical Problems.
One consequence was that, with the shortage of adult males, women became more important in society. For example, the women's suffrage movement became active within a few years after the civil war.
Women in the north during the Civil War played a direct role in the war. While many women established safe households and tended to their children, many preferred to take a more active role by serving as nurses, sewing, cooking, mending clothes, and cooking. The women of the south had the same attitude; however, they had fewer resources and used the assistance of slaves to do the same duties as their northern counterparts.
The North and South both still disagreed on slavery . The South however , slowly rejoined the Union . After the Civil War , black people were under segregation . They weren't allowed to do all the same things as white people until 1962 .
The Civil Rights Movement made the white racist snare, mad and uneasy that a change was coming for the negro in the south and they could'nt accept that. As far as non racist at the time it tested there own moral code about right and wrong.
The Fact that the communist leaders in the north needed more bodies to fill the spots that their white slave loving counterparts had left open after the south shot them full of holes....
Equality for both white and black races., yeah, they are still working on it!
In the South approximately 80% of the eligible white males would serve in the Confederate military. Although the percentage in the North was much less, the North had a strong advantage in the number of its troops in comparison to the South.
Acually it was the north versus the south. The north wanted no slaves and the south did.

The Civil War came to be remembered as a tragic family quarrel among white Americans in which blacks played no significant part.

One side was known as the North or the Federal Union or the Yankees. The other was known as the South or the Confederate States or the Rebs and consisted of the states that had seceded from the union of the United States.
for the north (red white and blue) they got their colors; red: the blood shed during war white:the light that finally shown after the war blue:the main color of the flag after the north and south united; the color of unity
How did white landowners in the south reassert their economic power in the decade following the civil war?
the north and south did not both agree on the same things when it came to slavery and the south didn't want to give up on slave working because they didn't have to pay the slaves where the north had white people to do the work for money
Of the white males who were between the ages of 13 and 43 in 1830, 8 percent of them died in the Civil War. Of those 8 percent, the number of white males from the South that died was three times higher than the number from the North.

During the course of the US Civil War, the South maintained a little over 3% of its white population under arms. On the other hand, the North's percentage was almost equal, having only slightly less. The South's clear problem was that these percentages generated vastly different numbers of soldiers.
