George W. Bush (Republican) was declared the winner based on the Electoral votes he received after being declared the winner in Florida. Al Gore (Democrat) got the most number of popular votes, but, it takes the Electoral votes to win the Presidency. The number of votes George W. Bush got in Florida was only a few hundred more than the number of votes Al Gore received. A lot of people did not like the outcome of the 2000 election, but, it's over and done with.
