The ministers preached that inner religious emotion is more essential than outer religious behavior. They found out that the religious power was up to them, instead of the church. That realization led to the thinking that the political power was in their hands and not in the hands of the English monarch. The Great Awakening contributed to the Declaration of Independence, which was the separation from England and the colonies.
