The angels tell the sheperds about Christ's birth.
An angel told the shepherds, who also saw a whole host of angels praising God.
After Jesus' birth in Bethlehem, the shepherds were the first to visit him, according to the New Testament. The angels announced the birth to the shepherds, who then went to see Jesus in the manger.
The first people that visited Jesus as a baby were the shepherds. The shepherds were visited by an angel and were told about Jesus' birth.
'Shepherds' is the subject while 'Jesus' is the direct object.
shepherdsAnswerIn the view of John Shelby Spong (Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus), neither birth story, in Matthew and Luke, contains any historical truth. This being the case, we can ignore the inconsistencies and allow that either the shepherds came first, or the wise men did. To say otherwise would create an impossible dilemma. If Luke is right, and the young family left Bethlehem for their home in Nazareth a few days after the Shepherds arrived, then they were never in Bethlehem for the wise men to find them living in a house. If Matthew is right and the family fled from Bethlehem to Egypt for fear of Herod, then they could never have travelled from Bethlehem to Nazareth after the birth of Jesus (Luke 2:21-39).
The Bible does not specify the time of day when Jesus was born. The Gospel of Luke does mention angels announcing the birth to shepherds in the middle of the night, which is why tradition places the birth in the early morning hours before sunrise. The date of his birth is not identified in Scripture, either, but was chosen by the Church several centuries later.
The Bible indicates that the Shepherds and the wise men simultaneously learned of the birth of Jesus, so I suppose you may say that they were equal second, after Jesus' parents to learn of his birth.
