Explain two reasons why you crop an image when making a print?
1) because the film format does not exactly match the print format, so you either have to lose something off of the sides and/or top/bottom. 2) because you decide in the darkroom that the image would look better enlarged more than what is required to simply fill the paper area. Bonus answer: Because you decide in the darkroom that the placement of something in the image would look better if moved off to one edge, so you adjust accordingly. ...

What does pixel per inch?
If you mean "What does pixels per inch mean?" then I can help. This refers to the density of pixels within a given inch squared of an image. Basically its an easy way to determine the quality of an image without seeing it. For example if you have a digital photograph that measures 1200 pixels wide X 800 pixels tall and you intended to print it at 12" wide by 8" tall, the pixels per inch would be 100 (usually written as 100ppi). In inches what size is 728 pixels x 90 pixels?
Pixels have no real-world dimension and so there is no inch value to that image. You could print that image at 10 feet wide if you wanted to, but it would look terribly blurry. If you were aiming for ultra-high quality (lets say 250ppi), then that image would only print at 2.912" wide and only .36" tall. The key here is at what resolution are you wanting to achieve. This is the determining factor as to how large an image is...

Radio in the early 1900's and finally moving image with the invention of movies in the 1920's, but before moving image there had to be the invention of film.
