You have to take the front dash apart almost to the firewall. A lot of 5,8and 10mm screws. Not a job for a DIY'er.
Remove the dash assembly to gain access to the blend door actuator.
The blend door actuator can go bad. Big job to replace it. Dash assembly must be removed to gain access to it.
Pretty difficult unless you have small hands. Under glove box is very tight. Only a couple screws but hard to remove and bolt back in. Would be simple if you could get to screws. I am trying to get mine out now. Anyone have any tips?
How do i replace blend door motor
A common cause is a broken temperature door in the dash. Very big repair job. See CHEVY EQUINOX and PONTIAC TORRENT no heat below... --------------------- Heat blend door. Yes a VERY expensive repair and it is becoming quite the popular problem in 2006 equinox but Chevrolet will not do anything about it. www.topix.com chevroletforum.com www.web2carz.com websites I have found where people have complained about the air blend door. First off the Chevrolet dealer wants you to come in and pay ($85 at our dealership) to get the problem "diagnosed" (even though I told him what the problem was) then the cost to fix it ranges from just over $1,000 to $1,500 because they basically have to remove the entire dash to get to the air blend door only to replace it with another inferior product.

The heater flap, or blend door, is difficult to replace with OEM parts supplied from Ford. There is an aftermarket kit that makes the job and cost significantly easier at heatertreater.net or on the Ebay listing.
The blend door actuator on the late model Chevy Tahoe is located behind the dash in the glove box area. Broken blend doors and broken blend door actuators are a very common problem among Chevy Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado models. Typically, to repair a broken blend door, a mechanic will disassemble the dash and replace the plenum box. It is an expensive and labor intensive repair. There are also some DIY solutions such as the heatertreater that provide hardware and instructions for performing the repair by removing the glove box rather than the entire dash. It is worth looking into if you think you have a broken blend door.
Unfortunally you need to remove the entire dash assembly in order to gain access the the blend actuator. Consider replacing the heater core while your in there only because the amount of work involved to do it later if it should leak.
Very difficult, as it is underneath the dash, which is hard to remove.
the blend door actuater is more than likely the cause of the noise.....very common....can go in behind the glove box to replace it.
