The thermostat is located where the hose leaves the engine to go to the top of the radiator. You unscrew the bolts holding the hose mounting to the engine. There you find the thermostat.
The 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra thermostat is located on the front of the engine. You can follow the water supply line from the radiator to the thermostat housing.

Some engines are easier than others. Follow the upper rad hose from the rad to the engine and there you will find the housing for the thermostat. take the 2 bolts holding it out after taking the hose off and when replacing it make sure the spring goes toward the engine.

My 97 4.0 Ranger's thermostat is in the front of the engine. I has two bolts you have to take off. I had to replace the gasket. Leaked when I got on it hard. It's called the "thermostat housing. Thermostat is easy to replace. Great engine.

Follow the top radiator hose down to the water outlet on engine. The stat is in there.
Thermostat is inside a metal cylinder on the left side of the engine. Just undo the top. Removing it is difficult as it is a tight squeeze out. Installation takes less than 30 minutes.
Replace it with the exact same temperature thermostat as the one you removed. Do not run the engine without a thermostat.
