The sad and inconvenient truth is that they don't. Trees of the variety popularily used in the Tannenbaum role ( the word literally means fir tree or pine tree in German) simply do not even grow in the Holy Land. There is no biblical warrant for Christmas trees and there is serious potential for environmental harm, misdirection of what the holiday is supposed to be about- the birth of Christ, and very real fire hazards and waste disposal problems; unlike cardboard boxes, wrapping paper, etc., Christmas trees do not lend themselves favorably to recycling. It is a reckless waste of Natural Resources, when so many forest products- from furniture to books- have a far more durable service life, and Christmas trees are a costly one shot lasting at best a month. Keep Christ In Christmas! I don't see how Christmas trees aid in this process.
