How do I disconnect the supply line from the water supply under my sink?
It is where the supply line is attached to a water line. May be under the kitchen sink or in the basement under the refrigerator in the closest supply line. Should be a hot water line. Hot water because most of the minerals stay in the water heater and the water in the supply line will be cold from sitting. Someone may have put a shutoff at the floor behind the refrigerator, but I doubt… Read More

Would water softner beads block the water pipes Our washer would not work on cold water. I removed the cw hose from the facet and it was packed full of small gold beads. Why is this something else?
Yes the little gold beads will block your water lines. I am dealing with a clogged line now that is about 100 ft long under ground, the supply line. In my case the water line broke and let the water softner beads come out of the water softner and flushed back down the supply line. I have not at this time removed all of the beads from the line and am not sure that I… Read More

If we closed off water to repair running toilet and temperatures outside dropped and now water will not flow and fill toilet tank are the pipes frozen?
If it is just the toilet that doesn't have water, then the pipes are probably not frozen. If it is the whole house than maybe yes. If you have water at other faucets, look at the toilet and see where the blockage is. Disconnect the supply line under the tank and see if water is coming through the shut off at the toilet if there is one. Read More

Why do you have no cold water flow in the upstairs bathroom when the hot water works fine and no other tap or appliance has an issue?
In addition to the other reply about supply lines, I will add that flecks of metal from inside the pipe can become trapped in the wire filter in the end of the faucet. Turn off the faucet, loosen and unscrew the very end (you might need a wrench to loosen---work gently). A small thin 'basket' and a rubber washer should be in the piece you unscrewed. Tap the piece against the palm of your hand… Read More
Can the water line to an outside valve ie garden hose be from the outlet of a water softener or does it have be be from the supply side of the softener?
Normally, the supply line for an outside hose bib is taken from the supply side (the line into the softner), since softened water (the line out) contains a certain amount of salt that is not particularly good for watering lawns or washing cars. In areas with hard water, this plumbing arrangement is often referred to as a "third line water system", meaning there are cold and hot water softened lines, and a third unsoftened line… Read More

Check under the hood for a vacuum line that is disconnected, pinched, collapsed, cracked etc. A common place for a vacuum line to disconnect would be at the vacuum reservoir. This is the black plastic ball that is attached to the under side of… Read More

How do you connect water lines to a kitchen faucet when the line coming out of the faucet is copper and the nut is stripped?
I have never seen a faucet that has a nut on the line coming out of it. Usually it is a male connection and the nut is on the supply line between the faucet and the house supply. Anyway, if the line coming out of the faucet is messed up, you could probably cut it and use a compression fitting to go between the faucet and the supply line to the house line. Read More
