How do you change a knock sensor on a 1990 Lexus ES250 it has the same engine as a 1990 Toyota Camry?
You have to take the intake manifold off in order to do this. Both sensors (there are 2 of them) are on top of the heads. A dealer will typically charge $1100-$1500 for this service because it is time intensive. The sensors themselves are around $170 each. I would recommend a top end rebuild to get more value out of the time/money spent on this procedure.

I'm able to pull mine out by putting my fingers in the small compartment below the radio and my thumb on the top edge of the radio and pulling out from the dashboard. The radio is attached to the storage compartment with the antennae plugged into the back. Be carefull not to damage seal around radio when reinstalling.

Lexus did not come into existence until 1990, so there were on Lexus commercials in the 1980's.
under tha steering colum there is a metal bar and above it is a little silver box. remove both and unplug the wires from that box and those will attach to your wire harness for your new radio. just run them up through to where the new radio will go. the factory radio will stay and the new one will go where the tape deck is. just did all that to my 1990 silverado

Removing the radio from a 1990 Cressida is a pain, mainly because it is in three parts (radio/CD player, radio/CD player controls, and amplifier). First you remove the trim from the transmission shift area, then begin removing all the plastic items from around the radio and control strip, working your way up from the shift area. Note that you will probably not be able to replace the OEM radio --Toyota wants $2300 for one, but… Read More

you need the special wire tools...they sort of look like big v-shaped paper clips. You need 2, one on each side of the radio. You may have noticed 2 little holes on each side of the radio's front. The radio removal tool is inserted in the holes, and it attaches to little clips inside. You then pull the radio out. I believe that when you remove the radio, the security system scrambles the radio's code… Read More
