Antibiotics are designed to target or attack parts of a bacterial cell, like the cell wall, or enzymes contained inside the cell; fungi do not contain the same cell pieces, or machinery, so antibiotics cannot attack them. Antifungals are a class of drugs designed to attack fungus parts.
Because antibiotics kill or inhibit bacteria, not fungi.

Quite a few. One of the most common is fluconazole. Others include ketoconazole, itraconazole, clotrimazole, miconazole, nystatin, and terbinafine. The are often considered antifungals rather than antibiotics though. Some are available for topical use and some are oral medications.

Who can you order amoxicillin from?

From your doctor - you should not take an antibiotic unless you are positive that you have an infection and that the infection can be cured by that particular antibiotic - otherwise you just make your body resistant to antibiotics so they won't work on you.

Does bacitracin clear nail fungus?

No. Bacitracin is an antibiotic for bacteria, not for fungus. For a nail fungus infection you need an oral (systemic) medication such as Lamisil tablets. Those who don't want to risk its side effects usually try less effective anti-fungal creams. Some believe that other remedies also work such as vinegar, vicks vaporub, hydrogen peroxide, chlorine bleach or Tea Tree Oil. Some work for some people, nothing works for everybody.

Can taking an antibiotic cause a urinary tract infection in a child?

Generally not - because the antibiotic would be 'dismantling' the microbes causing the UTI (urinary tract infection). However, an antibiotic may cause vulvar irritation that may lead to symptoms of itiching and pain on urination - these symptoms may be mitigated by a specific cream. If the UTI is caused by a virus, then no antibiotic will solve the problem - the infection will in this case have to work its way out.

How are fungus infections treated?

Silly as it may sound, with various anti-fungal medications. The medication depends on the type of fungal infection, but they work by essentially stopping metabolism in the fungus, thus killing it.

What is the correct use of a topical antibiotic?

For the topical antibiotic to work best, it should be used only to prevent infection in a fresh wound, not to treat an infection that has already started.

The bacteria builds resistance and gets so strong the anibotics don't work. If that happens you won't get better when you have an infection. So finish your antibiotic!
