How does a black bear get their energy?

Like all animals, black bears get their energy from food. Black bears are opportunistic omnivores, eating whatever plants or animals are available. They eat young shoots from plants, berries, nuts, carrion, insects and insect larvae, honey, and nuts, along with anything else they can find. Where humans live, they often eat food out of the garbage, so dumpsters have to be designed to be bear proof.

Bears (Black or Grizzly) are omnivorous and opportunistic Predator's.

This means they like to eat sweets (flowers and things like that)

The scavenge for meat and if they are given opportunity they can attack and kill other animals.

The thing is that bears have poor eye sight and their sense of smell, while better than Humans, is not good enough to hunt by.

So this makes Humans perfect prey, to stupid to stay out of effective eye sight range and slow enough to be run down easily.

So if any animal gets within reach of a Bear it is a snack.

Black bears and Grizzlies can run around 30 MPH (50 KPH) over virtually any terrain, most large wood land creatures can out run a bear if given a head start.

This coupled with the pressure of having to gain enough weight in the short summers where I live so they can survive Hibernation means that the tend to eat what is available, and not really hunt like a large cat or a Polar bear would.
