The main purpose of fats in the body is to serve as a storage system and reserve supply of energy. During periods of low food consumption, fat reserves in the body can be mobilized and broken down to release energy. Fats serve as an insulation material to allow body heat to be conserved and fats line and protect delicate internal organs from physical damage. Fats in the diet can be converted to other lipids that serve as the main structural material in the membranes surrounding our cells. Fats are also used in the manufacture of some steroids and hormones that help regulate proper growth and maintenance of tissue in the body.

They use them to have energy as well as store energy. There are 4 types of carbohydrates a cell can have. They also help with the breakdown of fatty acids and help with cell functions like cell growth. Carbs are also used in cells because they provide a structural material for cell walls.

The body uses lipids to: * store energy fuel * insulate body tissues * cushion and protect organs * produce ketone bodies - the primary energy source for the heart and brain (preferred over glucose)

An individual cell will use lipids to construct its membranes, which are made of a phospholipid bilayer.

Mainly it uses it as an energy source, one that can be stored. But fat also does service as insulation, helping to protect you from extreme temperatures.

What fats used in the body for?

Fats, also known as lipids, are used for many different functions in the body. One way a fat is used is the most common use-energy storage. Any energy that your body does not need to break the bonds of, is automatically stored in different parts of the body as fat. Fats (lipids) are also what help make up the cell membranes on most of the cells and tissues in your body. The use of fats in the body is indispensable just like many other things like nutrients, proteins, carbohydrates, etc.-Revguy12
