Crocodiles (and Alligators) - are 'ambush' predators. They lie in wait submerged near the water's edge, and grab any 'prey' animal that gets too close. The victim is usually dragged into deeper water, where the crocodile performs a 'death roll'. This is done with enough speed, and force - that the prey normally suffers a broken neck.

Well, they have many sharp teeth and the capability to exert some 2000 psi of pressure when they clamp down. Furthering that, once they trap their prey, they tend to go into what's known as a "death roll", which further disorients their prey and weakens their ability to resist.
