Best Answer

Electrical appliances use electrical energy to perform a task. Many electrical devices are energy converters, converting electricity to light (light bulbs), rotational force (motors), or heat (heaters).

Beyond that simple general explanation, the theory of operation of each different type of appliance is very specific and cannot be summarized in one answer.

Energy efficient appliances work the same way as any other appliance - they are fueled by power (typically electric, sometimes natural gas) and operate. However, they are designed to use less energy than a standard appliance.

There is a wire that runs to your house giving it power, then when you turn a light on, it closes the circut and it comes to and end, which causes heat and that makes the light. that is why when you put a hand on a lightbulb that is turned on, your hand gets really hot and burns your hand

Energy efficient homes work the same way as any other home - power is delivered by utilities (electric, gas, water, sewer service) and it is consumed by the house. The difference is in the amount of power consumed - an energy efficient home uses much less energy (which means the bills are cheaper for the homeowner). Some things that change include the amount and quality of insulation (tends to be much greater), windows tend to be double paned with an insulating layer of air in between the panes, the appliances are high-efficiency and the water heater tends to be an on-demand tankless system.

How efficient are energy efficient homes?

During cold temperatures, the wall (wood) of a log home will warm up when a house is heated and will radiate heat back into the home so the heat system doesn't have to work as hard. The same thing happens in the summer when cooling a log home. The logs absorb the cool temperature and radiate it back into the home, creating a very energy efficient structure.

How are energy efficient homes connected to global warming?

Global warming is caused by extra carbon dioxide greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. Most of the world's electricity is generated by burning fossil fuel, like coal or oil.Burning fossil fuel adds extra carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. An energy efficient home uses less electricity from the grid, so it has a lower carbon footprint, that is, it is responsible for less carbon dioxide than an average house. So an energy efficient home reduces the threat of global warming in a small way. (What if billions of homes became energy efficient?)
