The fossils of animals were found the three different continents, but no animal could've swam that far across the salt water, so there had to be another way. Also, the plant fossil glossopteris was discovered in Antarctica, where no plants could live.

One of Wegeners theories was based off of evidence from fossils. These fossils were the Glossopteris plant fossil found in nearly every of the seven continents including Antarctica. And the other fossil was the Mesosaurus land reptile fossil found on Africa and South America which are continents now seperated by vast oceans proving Wegeners theory because these reptiles and plants couldnt have swam or drifted across these large oceans.

He found fossils of the same species which were spread over different continents, showing that the animals and plants had moved across the continents when they were all one land mass. Also, the fossils he was using were from species which wouldn't have been able to travel across the oceans today, which reinforced his point.
