If I make a pot in India and trade or sell it to you in Italy that pot would be found in Italy but it would be clear that it wasn't made there. Not only are items traded between cultures but inventions and technology. If someone invents an item in country A and one like it is found in country B historians know that the two cultures traded or were in communication.
