They run in large circles. They also will paw the ground while looking at other horses and snake their necks. If push comes to shove they will turn their heel on any horse they dont want in their "territory" and if push comes to shove they will kick, stike and bite to defend it, be it a feed bucket in a paddock, or a wide open plain in the west, the behavior is the same.

There are various classes of hoof wounds, as well as hoof conditions that may appear as wounds, and recognised diseases that affect the hooves of horses.

A wound is usually caused by a blow or trauma of some sort. It can affect:- the external hard part of the hoof; - the inner laminae and structure; - the frog or sole below, - or the coronet around the top of the hoof - the area from which the hoof grows.

Wounds can be indicated by bleeding, bruising or obvious damage.

A horse who shows lame must be examined carefully for a wound caused by a hidden element such as a thorn or wire cut.

Externally visible conditions that can develop include quarter cracks.

Internal damage can include whiteline disease and seedy toe.

The markings found on a spotted horse's hoof may be dark, white, parti colored or striped. Vertical dark and light stripes are particularly associated with the appaloosa breed.
