4 cylinder means how many cylinders (like cans kind of) in which gas is sprayed and air combines and then is ignited to make power. The more cylinders the more combustion and in theory more power, all things equal. It typically means more gas consumption too. Secondly, automatic relates to the transmission. That means you do not need to shift gears, because the car does it for you. As opposed to a manual transmission, otherwise known as "stickshift" where you have to shift gears yourself.
The Chevy Cavalier vehicle can be either an automatic or a stick shift. You can switch an automatic over to a stick shift by switching out the transmission.Ê
