What is a major cause of variation within species?

Variation of a species can come about in many ways, but mutation is the major cause of variation in a species.

What is the difference between a variation and a mutation?

mutation is an alteration in the nucleotide sequence of a gene whereas variation is any difference between individuals of a particular species.

Which process is a cause of variation in a species?

Sexual Reproduction Genetic mutation

A change in the genetic material that produces variation in a species may be the result of?

immigration, mutation and sexual reproduction.

Which process produces the most variation within a species?

Variations occurs in species due to the process of "Crossing over"

What causes variation within species?

because the variation causes the variation becasue of the variation of the species. genetic mutation and adaption of some members to physical condition better than others (survival and reproduction of those best able to adapt to the environment. ) It can also be affected by the contact the species has doesn't have with other populations of the species.

How does the mutations affect a species?

mutation is the ability to change in a species mutation help s the species to get better equipped with the environment .It is nothing but evolution for example mutation in the animals such monkeys paved the way for the humans to grow

How does genetic variation and mutations relate to each other?

mutation brings about variation which is the basis of evolution and the two types of variation are heritable and non-heritable

Why can mutation affect evolution?

Mutation is the cause of evolution. Mutation is what creates differences in individuals within a species, leading to diversion. Then "survival of the fittest" can occur.

What is the relationship between mutation rates and generation span?

The relationship between mutation rates and generation span is that they both have in impact on the Mitochondrial DNA diversity patterns, unexpected variation of mutation rate across species

How can mutation affect evolution?

Mutation can serve up the raw variation that natural selection selects from, thus alleles are changed over time in populations of organisms; evolution.

What provides the source of variation in evolution?

Mutation, such as insertion, deletion and rarely frameshift mutation. Sexual recombination, is sexually reproducing species. This includes, in meiosis, the independent assortment of chromosomes and crossing over. Then there is random fertilization to provide a last source of variation.
