Best Answer

This could mean two things, either the plant is growing on a host plant simply for some advantage such are access to light (such as with many orchid species). In this relationship neither plant is harmed.

Or, it could mean that one plant is parasitising another in order to derive nutrition - such as the case of the Dodder and Mistletoe plants

-- One way for a plant to grow on another plant is by grafting. You can take a plant with a root system and cut its top off. Then you take a branch from another plant and attach the two together. The tissue will merge and the plant will grow as one plant. They must be related though and they are still genetically two different plants.

-- Some plants, such as dodder and strangler fig, grow on other plants as parasites.
